Former Division II track and field star Riley Northrup enters his second seasonas a graduate assistant for Augustana's track and field teams. Northrup will lead the instruction of Augustana's athletes in vertical and horizontal jumps.
In 2012-13, Northrup helped three athletes to All-NSIC honors and one to All-American honors. Henrik Holmberg earned five All-NSIC awards, two high jump, two multi-event, and one long jump honors, and two All-American finishes with the help of Northrup.
Undrer Northrup's tutelage, Katie Guse was named All-NSIC twice and Kelsey Kaufmann once in women's high jump as both earned top-three finishes at the NSIC championships.
A Hot Springs, S.D. native, Northrup earned All-America status as a high-jumper in 2007 with a seventh-place finish at the NCAA championships. Northrup was a provisional qualifier in 2007, 2008, and in 2010 while claiming Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference First-team honors in the high jump in 2007 and 2008. Northrup was selected as an Academic All-America honoree 2007, 2008, and 2010.
Northrup received his bachelor's degree in Secondary Education from Chadron State College in 2010 while earning cum laude honors.
Northrup served as a volunteer coach for Glenrock High School track in 2010 and coached at Gordon-Rushville High School during the 2012 spring season. As a student-athlete at Chadron State, Northrup volunteer coached the Chadron High School track and field team from 2008-10.
Northrup resides in Sioux Falls and is pursuing his master's degree in sports administration and leadership at Augustana.
