Emma Spagnola joined the Augustana staff as a graduate assistant in the fall of 2018. The North Aurora, Illinois native joins the Vikings after completing her collegiate career at the University of Minnesota where she was a sprinter & hurdler for the Gophers.
While at the University of Minnesota, Spagnola was a member of the school record-setting 4x1 team and set individual school records in the 60 Hurdles, 100 Hurdles and 400 Hurdles.
Spagnola was voted co-team captain for the 2017-18 season and qualified for the 2018 NCAA Outdoor National Championships in both the 100 and 400 hurdles. She earned second team All-American honors in 2017 indoor NCAA Championships in the 60 Hurdles and first team All-American honors at the 2018 NCAA Championships, placing 7th in the 400 hurdles.
Outside of her competitive experience, Spagnola has spent significant time around sports organizations including the Minnesota Twins Tarp Crew, assisting at the X Games and as a counselor for Minnesota Track & Field camps. She is also active in the community assisting with the Minnesota Wild Green Team and volunteering for Special Olympics.
Spagnola earned her bachelor's degree in Kinesiology with a minor in Sports Management at the University of Minnesota. She is pursuing her master's degree in Sports Administration and Leadership at Augustana and resides in Sioux Falls.
