Just one year removed from his national runner-up finish at the 2011 NCAA Championship, Al Meger begins his first year as a volunteer assistant coach for the Augustana wrestling program in 2011-12.
A native of Owatonna, Minn., Meger was a four-year starter and three-time national qualifier at Augustana. He compiled a 68-39 career record as a Viking, wrestling at 125 pounds. In 2011, Meger was a national finalist, helping Augustana to a third-place finish at the NCAA Championship. As a junior, Meger and the Vikings were national runners-up.
As a prep wrestler at Owatonna High School, Meger went 169-8 and logged four top-three state finishes, including a championship as a sophomore.
Meger , who also serves as the head coach of Midwest Wrestling, earned degrees in business administration and psychology from Augustana in 2011. He resides in Sioux Falls.
