The 2015-16 season will be the fifth for Steve Klock as head men’s golf coach at Augustana.
The Vikings recorded their best finish yet under Klock in 2014-15, placing fifth at the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference/US Bank Men’s Golf Tournament Championship. The fifth-place finish was the highest by an Augustana team since the 2008-09 season.
The Vikings also captured their first team title in over two years by tying for first in the Upper Iowa Spring Invitational on April 4, which was part of three third-or-better finishes as a team. Augustana also held the overall lead after the first two rounds of the NSIC/US Bank Men’s Golf Tournament Championship.
For the success the Vikings had during the course of the season, they were rewarded with two All-NSIC selections in Tyler Jensvold (first team) and Parker Klitzke (second team). The selection of the two were the most that Augustana has had chosen since the program joined the league. Jensvold’s first-team selection came after being named NSIC Golfer of the Week twice during the year, becoming the second Viking to earn the honors since joining the NSIC.
The Vikings registered a sixth-place finish at the 2013-14 NSIC Tournament. Augustana had one golfer in the top 10 with Clay Kopplin taking 10th place.
With five freshmen and sophomores on the roster, Augustana had a season-best fourth-place finish at the Quarry Oaks Collegiate in Ashland, Neb after shooting a team score of 637.
The Vikings fourth-place finish at Quarry Oaks began a run of three sixth-place-or-better finishes to close out the season, capped off by taking sixth at the NSIC Men's Golf Championship in Omaha, Neb.
Klock, who is the 16th coach in program history, served as an assistant coach for the South Dakota State men's and women's golf program from 2007 to 2011
A native of Sioux Falls, Klock spent four years on the SDSU golf team. He earned Division I All-Independent honors twice and finished his career ranked fourth in stroke average (75.86) and fifth in rounds played (72).
The Lincoln High School graduate was a two-time team captain and MVP during his prep career.
Klock earned his bachelor's degree in consumer affairs and marketing from SDSU in 2007. He resides in Sioux Falls with his wife, Stacia.
The Vikings’ lineup has been strengthened with the signing of Sioux Falls O’Gorman standout Collin Hammer, who joins the team for the 2013-14 season. Hammer was the South Dakota Golf Association’s Junior Golfer of the Year in 2010. He played on two state Class AA championship teams at O’Gorman and twice finished in the top 10 individually.
