Gavin Nelson, who wrestled for Augustana from 2007-2011, enters his third season as a volunteer assistant coach in 2016-17 after spending two seasons as a graduate assistant.
He compiled a 48-20 record through his first three seasons with the Vikings and took a 28-6 mark to the 2011 NCAA Division II national championships. He capped his senior season with a sixth-place finish at 165 pounds to earn All-America Distinction.
Nelson was chosen to the All-Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference second team in 2009-2010 and repeated in 2010-2011.
Nelson is pursuing a master’s degree in sports administration and leadership.Â
