Skyler Petry enters his second season as a graduate assistant coach for the Augustana wrestling program in 2020-21.
Petry helped theĀ 2020-21 squad go 3-3 in duals during the regular season, finishing in a tie for fourth in the NSIC standings, finish in 4th at the NCAA Super Region 5 Tournament and finish in 21st at nationals. At the regional tournament, Steven Hajas qualified for nationals at 285 pounds while Brandon Carroll qualified at 133 pounds. At the NCAA DII National Tournament, Hajas brought home NCAA All-America honors with a third-place finish and 4-1 record at the tournament.Ā
Petry helped guide the 2019-20 Vikings to a 10-4 dual record and 6-2 NSIC record with five wins over nationally-ranked opponents. Despite being picked fourth in the NSIC Preseason Coaches Poll, Augustana finished second in the NSIC standings and took third-place at the Super Region 5 Tournament. Individually, Petry saw two Vikings garner All-America honors, three wrestlers qualify for nationals and nine wrestlers win tournaments throughout the regular season.
Petry graduated from the University of Minnesota where he majored in math and minored in leadership. He wrestled for the Gophers from fall of 2014 to spring of 2019 at 125 pounds. Petry was a four-time letterwinner and a four-time university freestyle national placer (8th, 3rd, 6th, 6th). He also placed in the top eight at the U.S. Open in freestyle.Ā He was awarded most dedicated wrestler on the team in 2016.
Petry attended WEM High School and graduated in 2014. He won the state championship his senior year and was aĀ four-time state placer (5th in 2011, 2nd in 2012, 3rd in 2013, 1st in 2014). He was also a 2014 Junior Greco National Champion.
Skyler is the son of Todd and Amy Petry. He is the oldest of four siblings:Ā Samantha, Hannah, and Carson.
