Alex (Feeney) Nissen enters her fifth season as an assistant coach with the Augustana women’s basketball program in 2022-23.
During the 2021-22 season she helped lead Augustana to a 13-11 winning record. She led Junior Aislinn Duffy to a NSIC First Team All-Conference nomination, along with teammates Vishe' Rabb and Lauren Sees who were named NSIC Second Team All-Conference.
Feeney, a 2013 graduate of Augustana, returns to her alma mater after coaching stints with South Dakota State, Central College and Roosevelt High School.
As a student-athlete for Dave Krauth and the Vikings, Feeney was a four-year starter and tallied 1,723 points to go along with 828 rebounds. She was named the NSIC Freshman of the Year during the 2009-10 season and earned First Team All-NSIC honors her junior and senior seasons.
During her senior season, Feeney posted team best averages of 14.1 points and 7.1 rebounds, as the Vikings won the NSIC Conference Tournament and the Central Region Tournament. The team made their inaugural appearance in the Elite 8 and secured a spot in the NCAA Division II Final Four in San Antonio, Texas. Additionally, she was named to the Daktronics All-Central Region First Team for the second season in a row and was named the Central Region Tournament Most Outstanding Player.
As a junior with the Vikings, Feeney led the team in both scoring and rebounding, averaging 16.4 points and 7.4 rebounds per game. The Vikings qualified for the NCAA Tournament and made it to the Central Region Tournament Semifinals.
A native of Bismarck, North Dakota, Feeney earned a bachelor’s degree from Augustana in elementary education in the spring of 2013. She received Academic All-NSIC honors three times and was a member of the CoSIDA Capital One Academic All-District first team as a senior.
Alex currently resides in Sioux Falls with her husband, Matt, and daughters, Chloe and Ruby. She received her master’s degree from South Dakota State in sports and recreational studies in 2015.
