Men's and women's cross country sweep at Wartburg Invite

MEN'S RESULTS | WOMEN'S RESULTS

WAVERLY, Iowa
– The Augustana men's and women's cross country teams turned in dominating performances at the Dan Huston Invitational won both categories in convincing fashion.

The seven Viking men's runners registered the top seven spots in the 8,000-meter run.   Adam Braun logged the top finish, but the first four Augustana runners all clocked in at 24:58 which head coach Tracy Hellman described as, “a great time for this course in windy and cold conditions.”

Travis Beniak, TJ Gleason, and Paul Yak all recorded the winning time of 24:58 and Ryan Evans registered the final scoring time of 25:04.  The five-runner spread (the difference between the first and fifth runners on a team) of six seconds shows that the Vikings are in post-season form after this race.

On the women's side, Augustana placed four of the top six finishers and the fifth Viking to cross the finish line came in 12th.  Runa Falch clocked winning time of 21:37 for the 6,000-meter run.  Annie Pfeifle logged a 21:47 time, good for second place and Leah Black and Kyle Blakeslee placed third and fourth at 22:05 and 22:10, respectively.  Megan Brown rounded out the Augustana top-five with a 22:57 finish.

Coach Hellman was very pleased with the women's five-runner spread of 1:20 as well.  Hellman spoke highly of the Vikings' performance and what this means going towards the end of the season.

“Today's performance was a great final tune-up as we now enter championship season.  If we can continue to progress and stay healthy, we will have a great opportunity to finish the year with our best performance.”

Augustana now prepares for the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference championships on Oct. 20 in St. Paul.
