FINAL RESULTS | DAY ONE RECAP
MANKATO, Minn. – Augustana crowned two individual champions on their way to top six finishes at the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference Indoor Track & Field Championships. The Viking men finished in third and the Women's team placed sixth.
The men's team tallied 102.5 points after all 19 events were finished, but Minnesota State won in dominating fashion, collecting 207.5 total points. The women finished the day with 54 points and U-Mary won their third consecutive women's title with 185 points.
Henrik Holmberg and Katie Tonner's performances at the NSIC Multi-Event Championships also counted towards the teams point totals. Holmberg finished second, scoring eight points and Tonner placed seventh to contribute two points to the women's team score. Holmberg's high jump mark of 6' 8.75" on day one also set a new school record.
Kayla Mescher won her fourth 800-meter race in a row, but none sweeter than the conference championship. Mescher finished in 2:14.42 to earn her first individual conference title.
Augustana's 5,000-meter crew paved the way with four runners combining to score 25 points toward the team total. TJ Gleason followed up his second-place finish yesterday by winning the 5,000-meter run. Gleason completed the 5k in 14:54.53, nearly three seconds ahead of second place.
Speaking of second place, Adam Braun crossed the line behind Gleason for second place. Paul Yak and John Klecker rounded out Augustana's strong showing in the men's 5,000-meter run.
The men's middle distance group also performed well in the one-mile run, placing three runners in the top seven. Henrik Hansson led the way for the Vikings with a third-place finish, clocking a 4:16.77. Jordan Slusser and John Klecker finished sixth and seventh for the Vikings in the same race.
Hansson and Slusser also scored for the Vikings in separate races. Hansson tallied three points for his sixth-place time of 1:58.01 in the 800-meter run and Slusser earned four points after a fifth-place showing in the 1,000-meter race (2:33.91).
Staying on the distance side, Kristin Brondbo scored 12 total points for the Viking women with a pair of third-place finishes. Brondbo clocked a 4:58.85 in the mile and a 17:42.17 showing in the women's 5,000-meter run. Brondbo finished the weekend scoring 20 points for the Vikigns.
Khor Kong and CJ Ham notched a couple of second runner-ups in their respective events on day two. Kong earned his third-place finish in the 600-meter dash (1:21.84) and Ham recorded a 15.94-meter heave in the shot put for third place. Ham also placed eighth in the weight throw on day one.
Augustana scored in both the men's and women's 200-meter dash with Karmen Nyberg placing sixth and Jason Greenway in seventh. Nyberg ran a 26.33 second race and Greenway clocked a 23.12 second time. Greenway also finished in sixth in the men's 60-meter dash with a time of 7.00 seconds.
Emma Anderson finished in seventh place in the women's 1,000-meter run (3:03.86) and the women's 4x400-meter relay team also grabbed seventh place (4:00.62). The men's 4x400 relay team collected five points (3:24.93) with a fourth-place showing.
In the 60-meter hurdles, Ryan Heuer finished in 8.49 seconds, good enough for sixth place. Jacob Pohlmann set a school record in the pole vault, clearing 4.49 meters, tying him for eighth place.
The Vikings now turn their focus towards the NCAA Championships where as of today, the Vikigns have provisionally qualified athletes in 15 events.
