MINNEAPOLIS - Five Vikings hit provisional qualifying marks as Auugstana had 25 athletes compete at the Jack Johnson Classic hosted by the University of Minnesota.
Tying for the 800-meter win,
Aduo Omot clocked a 1:54.63 to hit his first provisional qualifying mark of the season. Joining Omot in the mid-distance event,
Henrik Hansson missed a qualifying mark by one tenth of a second, but took fifth in the race.
However, Hansson did provisionally punch his ticket in the mile run, finishing in eighth with a time of 4:15.34.
John Klecker joined Hansson in the race, finishing 15th, but he flirted with a provisional mark, missing by just three seconds in the mile and the men's 3,000-meter run in which he took 10th overall.
Kayla Mescher turned in a qualifying time in the women's 800-meter run, taking her four laps around the 200-meter track in 2:15.51.
Kyle Blakeslee joined Mescher as a track qualifier, turning in a 10:00.31 performance in the women's 3,000-meter run to take eighth. Her time of 9:54.97 from the MSU Preseason Meet will still stand as her best mark and as the seventh best time in Division II this season.
Kelsey Kaufmann also hit a provisional mark in an event for the second time, but the sophomore high-jumper bettered her previous mark by one centimeter. In an event that featured 35 jumpers, Kaufmann battled through long stretches of idleness and hit 1.67 meters (5 feet, 5.75 inches) to take fourth, first among Division II competitors.
Also logging top-eight finishes were
Kaylynn Erlandson and
Justin Greenway who both hit season-high marks. Erlandson placed seventh in the women's triple jump with a best mark of 11.14 meters (36 feet, 6.75 inches). Greenway was the top Augustana finisher in the men's 200-meter dash, clocking a 22.85-second lap.
The Vikings now take a trip to familiar Mankato, Minn. for the MSU Alumni Open on Jan. 31 and Feb. 1.
