BROOKINGS, S.D. – Augustana men's and women's indoor track & field teams got the season underway on Friday and Saturday Dec. 5 and 6 at the SDSU Preseason Open in Brookings S.D.
Seven Vikings' on the women's team recorded top three performances, while the men recorded two in their respective events.
In the 600-meter dash,
Kayla Mescher posted a new school record (1:32.89) to claim first-place, after beating her record set in 2013 of 1:35.42.
Ida Eltervaag, competing unattached, finished 6th in the 600-meter dash, recording a time of 1:42.31.
Anne Parsley took second-place in the 400-meter dash with a time of 57.94.
Carina Hofmeister tied the school record in the 200-meter hurdles with a time of 25.66 to take sixth-place.
In the 60-meter hurdles,
Irene Almarcha placed third with a time of 8.86.
Valerie Moos also took third in the 300-meter hurdles clocking a time of 45.77.
The 4x400 relay team of
Carina Hofmeister,
Anne Parsley,
Charissa Etrheim, and
Kayla Mescher also earned a second-place finish with a time of 3:52.32. The men's team of
Jake Connealy,
Thomas Sittig,
John Isaacson, and
Josh Reider took eighth-place clocking a time of 3:29.17.
Kelsey Kaufmann took home a third-place finish, clearing 1.63 meters (5 feet, 4.25 inches) in the women's high jump.
On Friday,
Bree Woelber, a transfer from Iowa State took second-place in the pentathlon recording a personal-best 3665 points, which is a new school record for Augustana. Woelber also provisionally qualifies in the pentathlon.
Melissa Barella took 10th in the pentathlon setting a new personal record of 2741 total points.
In the 600-meter dash
Khor Kong took second-place recording a time of 1:22.47
Dylon Van't Hof and
Ryan Heuer led the way for the Vikings in 60-meter hurdles. Heuer finished fifth logging a time of 8.50-seconds, while Van't Hof took eigth-place logging a time of 8.69-second.
Heuer also competed in the 300-meter hurdles taking fourth-place with a time of 40.62.
Sophomore
Anthony Huber finished fifth in the discus throw, Huber's heave was 43.34-meters (142 feet, 2 inches). Junior
Nick Brant finished 10th with a 37.42-meter throw (122 feet, 9 inches).
Augustana returns to action at the Dordt Invitational on Jan. 17, 2015 in Sioux Center, Iowa.
