SIOUX FALLS, S.D. – The Augustana College women's tennis team (1-0) opened the spring portion of its 2014-15 schedule on Sunday with a 9-0 victory over Nebraska Wesleyan University (1-3) at the Woodlake Athletic Club.
The Vikings swept all three doubles matches and all six singles matches on their way to a season-opening victory.
Jessa Richards and
Sydney Postal teamed up for an 8-1 victory at No. 1 doubles over Katherine Ternent and Natalie Cech.
Christine Olivo and
Berkley Darr followed suit with an 8-3 win at No. 2 doubles over Wesleyan's Gaby Chaparro and Jennifer Heywood.
Jenna Helleberg and
Meredith Lawrence won by default at No. 3 doubles and the Vikings went into singles play with a 3-0 lead.
Augustana lost just seven games in five singles matches starting with Richards who defeated Gaby Chaparro 6-1, 6-0 at No. 1 singles. Postal defeated Wesleyan's Katherine Ternent 6-1, 6-2 at No. 2 singles while
Jenna Helleberg earned a 6-2, 6-1 victory over Natalie Cech at No. 3 singles.
Meredith Lawrence and
Heather Sullivan earned a pair of shutout victories at No. 4 and No. 5 singles before
Kaitlyn Motley won by default at No. 6. Lawrence defeated Jennifer Heywood 6-0, 6-0 at No. 4 singles and Sullivan picked up a 6-0, 6-0 victory at No. 5 singles.
Augustana returns to action on Friday, Feb. 6, hosting the University of South Dakota at the Woodlake Athletic Club at 6:30 p.m.
