MANKATO, Minn. - Two titles on day two of the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference Championships earned the Vikings two top-five team finishes. The Vikings men's team took fourth with 94.50 points while the women's squad placed second with a 119-point total.
Minnesota State collected their fourth consecutive men's title with 163 points and the University of Mary captured the women's title with a 142-point mark.
Kaylynn Erlandson leaped for 11.50 meters (37 feet, 8.75 inches) on her first attempt to set a new Augustana record. Erlandson finished seventh, while
Coley Stoller took ninth in the women's triple jump.
Emma Anderson also broke a school record in the 1,000-meter run clocking a time of 2:53.79 to take second-place.
Kaitlyn Yoerg finished third clocking a time of 2:55.28.
Kayla Mescher and
Anne Parsley both took the top marks in their respective events. Mescher clocked a time of 2:13.00 to set a new NSIC record in the 800-meter run, while Parsley finished with a time of 1:34.67 in the 600-meter run.
CJ Ham notched another top-two finish in the shot put, adding a second-place mark with a personal-best toss of 16.90 meters (58 feet, 8 inches) from the circle, a provisional mark that qualifies Ham for nationals.
For the third time this season.
Irene Almarcha set a new school record in the women's 60-meter hurdles, finishing second provisionally qualifying with a time of 8.62 seconds.
Calliann Brunswig set a personal-best mark in the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 9.05 for an eighth-place finish.
Bree Woelber took eighth with a time of 9.13.
On the men's side,
Ryan Heuer set a personal-best record and provisionally qualified with a time of 8.12 in the 60-meter hurdles to take second-place.
Harald Karbo battled against Sioux Falls Jase Kraft in the men's mile run. Karbo took second-place, missing out on the top mark by just 0.03 seconds. Carda took fifth and
Nathan Hauge took sixth.
Augustana looked to score big in the women's 5,000-meter run and they did so by placing three runners in the top 10.
Leah Seivert hung with the lead pack, breaking away the last lap, but came up short to U-Mary's Alexis Zeis to finish second place provisionally qualifying with a time of 17:08.13, which ranks 12th in the nation.
Meritxell Delgado finished third provisionally qualifying with a time of 17:15.39 which ranks 16th in the nation.
Annie Kruse rounded out the group taking ninth with a time of 17:50.79.
In the men's 5,000-meter run,
Glen Ellingson was the highest finisher for the Vikings with a third place finish clocking a time of 15:04.33.
Keegan Carda took sixth, while
Adam Braun and
Nick Larsen took eighth and ninth, respectively.
To close out the day, the women's 4x4 squad of
Carina Hofmeister,
Charissa Etrheim, Mescher, and Parsley set a new school record with a second-place finish provisionally qualifying with a time of 3:50.42. The men's group of
Chris Sharpe,
Jason Greenway,
Justin Greenway, and
Jeremy Botzet took fourth place with a time of 3:23.30.
Augustana now turns to the NCAA leaderboard to see who earned fast-enough or far-enough marks to warrant an invitation to the NCAA Championships in Birmingham, Ala. on March 13 and 14.
