SIOUX FALLS, S.D. – The Augustana College women's tennis team dropped its first match of the season to NCAA Division I University of South Dakota on Friday night at Woodlake Athletic Club. The 6-3 loss puts the Vikings at 1-1 on the year while the Coyotes improve to 3-0 on the season.
At No. 1 singles,
Jessa Richards remains perfect on the season winning in a tiebreaker 3-6, 7-5,12-10 over USD's Rymma Maslova. The University of South Dakota took the next four singles, starting with USD's Milica Pavlovic taking the No. 2 singles 6-4, 6-2 over
Sydney Postal.
Christine Olivo also dealt with her first defeat of the season, losing 6-0, 6-3 at the No. 3 singles flight.
Berkley Darr suffered similar fate, falling 6-0, 6-0 in the No. 4 singles match.
Jenna Helleberg couldn't turn the tides for the Vikings with a 7-5, 7-5 loss at No. 5 singles, followed by
Meredith Lawrence defeating Yamini Reddy at the No. 6 singles 6-0, 6-4, to put momentum back on Augustana's side.
Richards and Postal teamed up to take the No. 1 match over Milica Pavlovic and Dragana Brankovic, 9-7. The Coyotes took the final two doubles, beginning with Olivo and Sullivan suffering an 8-5 loss at No. 2, followed by Helleberg and Lawrence dropping the No. 3 doubles, 8-4.
The Vikings now head to Rapid City, S.D. as they take on MSU-Billings on Sunday, Feb. 8. First serve is slated for 1 p.m.
