BEMIDJI, Minn. - The Augustana College women's tennis closed out the weekend with a dominate 9-0 victory over Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference rival Bemidji State on Sunday morning.
The Vikings (9-1, 6-0 NSIC) have won the past five regular season NSIC titles without losing and have opened the 2015 season on an eight-match win streak. The Beavers (0-7, 0-6 NSIC) lost their seventh straight match to Augustana – third straight match overall this season in a 9-0 fashion.
The Vikings opened Sunday's match with a doubles sweep which paved the way for their sixth consecutive win in the NSIC,
Jessa Richards and
Sydney Postal rolled to an 8-1 win at the top doubles flight.
Christine Olivo and
Heather Sullivan followed suit with an 8-2 win in the No. 2 doubles contest then
Jenna Helleberg and
Meredith Lawrence completed the doubles sweep with an 8-1 win at No. 3 doubles.
Augustana was equally dominant in the singles matches, starting with Ricahrds notching a dominate performance at the No. 1 singles spot with a 6-1, 6-3 victory. Postal followed suit with a 6-2, 6-0 win at the No. 2 spot.
Olivo remained at the No. 3 singles spot, winning 6-3, 6-2. At No. 3 singles.
Berkley Darr improved her singles record to 7-1 with a 6-1, 6-0 win and Lawrence won her ninth match at the No. 5 singles with a 6-2, 6-4 victory.
Helleberg put the finishing touches on the Viking sweep with the second 6-0, 6-1 win of the day.
The Vikings will welcome the University of Sioux Falls on Friday, March 6 at 6:30 p.m. and Gustavus Adolphus on Saturday, March 7 with the time still to be determined. Both matches will be played at Woodlake Athletic Club.
