NEW ORLEANS - The U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association announced on Monday that seven Vikings were named All-Americans for their performance at the NCAA Indoor Championships this past weekend in Birmingham, Ala.
Kayla Mescher headlines the group with All-America accolades in two events. The senior finished fifth in the women's 800-meter run and anchored the 4x400 squad who placed seventh. This is Mescher first All-American honors in both events.
Augustana's women's quartet of
Carina Hofmeister,
Charissa Etrheim, Mescher, and
Anne Parsley add All-American honors to their name after setting a new school record of 3:48.98 in the women's 4x400 relay.
Irene Almarcha was named an All-American with her seventh-place showing in the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 8.59.
Paul Yak was the only male to make nationals to compete in the 5,000-meter race only to break his current school record clocking a time of 14:26.21 for a ninth-place finish. With this mark, Yak earned second-team All-American honors for the Vikings.
On day one, freshman
Leah Seivert finished seventh in the women's 5,000-meter run earning All-America honors after recording a personal-best time of 17:07.71.
