PUERTO RICO – The Augustana women's tennis team dropped its second match of the season and snapped its 10-match winning streak to NCAA Division I Navy on Monday. The 4-1 loss puts the Vikings at 11-2 on the year while Navy improved to 12-6 on their season.
Due to a rain delay and then darkness, only five singles matches were finished and only one doubles match was completed having no doubles points awarded. In the lone doubles match that was finished, Amanda Keller and Kristine Rojo defeated
Heather Sullivan and
Christine Olivo 8-4 at the No. 2 spot.
With singles matches starting the day, Augustana couldn't break through only recording one victory.
Jessa Richards suffered her first singles loss of the year, falling 6-2, 7-6.
Sydney Postal was also dealt a loss at the second singles flight losing 6-4, 6-3.
Olivo managed just three games in her No. 3 singles loss, 6-1, 6-2.
Berkley Darr took the No. 4 singles spot in three-sets. Darr dropped the first set 6-4, then dominated the next two winning both by a score of 6-4.
Jenna Helleberg couldn't turn the tides for the Vikings with a 6-0, 3-6, 6-3 loss at the No. 5 singles, followed by
Meredith Lawrence and Noella Kaufmann tying the first set 6-6 before the match went unfinished due to darkness.
Augustana now prepares for two matches on Tuesday facing off first with Division III Babson College at 6 a.m., followed by Division I Colgate College at 11 a.m.
