WINONA, Minn. - Augustana women's tennis won its fourth straight match with an 8-1 win over Winona State in a Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference match-up on Saturday. The Vikings improved to 15-2, 8-0 NSIC while the Warriors dropped to 6-8, 5-4 NSIC.
Augustana jumped out to a 2-1 lead over Winona State only falling at the No. 2 doubles contest. The No. 1 doubles pairing of
Jessa Richards and
Sydney Postal recorded the first win of the day, an 8-3 win.
The No. 2 doubles pairing of
Berkley Darr and
Heather Sullivan came up short losing 8-2.
Jenna Helleberg and
Meredith Lawrence completed the 2-1 lead for Augustana, winning the No. 3 doubles contest by an 8-0 margin.
Richards moved up three spots to No. 7 in the ITA Central Region singles rankings and the junior proved it by winning her No. 1 singles match 6-1, 6-0. Postal followed suit with a dominate 6-0, 6-3 victory.
Darr competed against Leah Dahl of Winona State with Darr taking the No. 3 singles match 6-4, 6-1.
At the No. 4 spot, Helleberg added to the Viking lead with a 6-1, 6-1 win and Lawrence moved up one spot to No. 5. The Prior Lake, Minn. native improved to 14-0 in singles competition powering past the Warriors' Elly Grossen with a shutout win of 6-0, 6-0.
Kaitlyn Motley put the finishing touches on the team win by shutting out her opponent 6-0, 6-0 -- her third win of the season in singles.
The Vikings stay the night in Winona, Minn. as they are set to play Upper Iowa at 9 a.m. tomorrow morning.
