SIOUX FALLS, S.D. – The Augustana women's tennis team extended its conference match-winning streak to 64 consecutive wins with a 9-0 shutout over cross-town rival Sioux Falls in their Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference match-up on Friday night. The Vikings improved to 10-1, 7-0 in the NSIC, while USF dropped to 5-3, 5-3 in the NSIC.
Beginning with doubles matches, Augustana built a 3-0 lead in the team score, led by the undefeated No.1
Jessa Richards and
Sydney Postal, the duo made quick work of their USF counterparts, shutting them out 8-0.
No. 2 doubles pairing of
Christine Olivo and
Heather Sullivan added their sixth win of the season with an 8-3 win on Friday night. Third-flight doubles tandem
Jenna Helleberg and
Meredith Lawrence rolled to an 8-4 win for the 3-0 Viking lead to head into singles play.
Ricahrds then powered past Sioux Falls Alison Kauss with a quick 6-2, 6-1 win at No. 1 singles. Postal followed Richards performance overpowering her opponent in a 6-0, 6-1 win in the second flight singles match.
Olivo came on top at the No. 3 singles with a close first set but pushed away winning 6-4, 6-0 and
Berkley Darr added Augustana's seventh win of the match with a shutout victory of 6-0, 6-0 at No. 4 singles.
Helleberg and Lawrence then closed the door on the Cougars with Helleberg winning 6-1, 6-1 at No. 5 singles and Lawrence taking the No. 6 singles match 6-0, 6-1 to remain undefeated in singles.
The Vikings now hosts Gustavus Adolphus tomorrow, March 7 at 7 p.m. at WoodLake Athletic Club.
