SIOUX FALLS, S.D. – Augustana women's tennis won its 10th straight match with an 7-2 non-conference win over Gustavus Adolphus (4-7) on Saturday night. The Vikings move to 11-1 on the season with six matches being shutout wins.
Dating back to the 2010-11 season where Augustana was last in action with the Golden Gusties, the Vikings captured its first victory against Gustavus and first for head coach Marc Kurtz.Jessa Richards and
Sydney Postal held down the top doubles flight with an 8-5 victory over Lauren Krebsbach abnd Sidney Dirks. Augustana's second-flight doubles squad of
Christine Olivo and
Heather Sullivan fought in the tight match but came up short to the Golden Gusties tandem losing a close 8-5 match.
Jenna Helleberg and
Meredith Lawrence then gave the Vikings a 2-1 margin after doubles competition concluded with an 8-0 win in the No. 3 doubles match.
Richards beat her opponent 6-3, 6-3 at the top singles spot, while Michaela Schulz of Gustavus rolled past Postal in three-sets 6-4, 3-6, and 10-6 at No. 2 singles.
Olivo dominated the No. 3 singles slot, beating Lizzy Stanczyk in three-sets 6-4, 3-6, and 10-6.
Berkley Darr and Helleberg each walked away victorious with 6-2, 6-1 wins at the No. 4 and 5 singles spots.
Lawrence capped of the night with a dominate 6-1, 6-1 performance at the No. 6 singles spot to remain undefeated in singles on the season.
The Vikings now head to Palmas Del Mar, Puerto Rico for their spring trip. Augustana will face Navy on Monday, March 16 with time still to be determined.
