Augustana softball set for three doubleheaders to close-out regular season

No. 9 Augustana softball set for showdown with Winona State, regular season finale this weekend

Storylines
• No. 9 Augustana softball continues a busy week with a big match-up against No. 19 Winona State on Wednesday afternoon. 
• Augustana (41-7, 22-2 NSIC) will take on Winona State (38-10, 20-3 NSIC) in a doubleheader beginning at 3 p.m. at Bowden Field. 
• Wednesday's doubleheader will be Augustana's regular season home finale. 
• Augustana and Winona State will battle it out for the top spot in the NSIC on Wednesday. 
• The Vikings hold a one-game lead over the Warriors in the NSIC standings. 
• Augustana opened the week taking on St. Cloud State in a doubleheader on Monday, after weekend games were moved due to weather. 
• The Vikings will continue action on Saturday and Sunday traveling to Minnesota State and Concordia-St. Paul to close-out regular season play. 
• Augustana and Minnesota State's twinbill will begin at 12 p.m. on Saturday. 
• First pitch between Augustana and Concordia-St. Paul is also set for noon.

• Senior Jenelle Trautmann leads all players in the NSIC with 19 home runs this season. 
• Trautmann, Augustana's all-time leader in home runs, has now hit 74 in her career which ranks third all-time in NCAA Division II history. 
• Trautmann is now just one home run shy of moving into a tie for second all-time. 
• Kutztown's Steph Denlinger (2006-09) is the NCAA Division II leader in career home runs with 79.
• Trautmann currently ranks 11th all-time in NCAA history (all divisions) in career home runs.
• With a three-run home run against Upper Iowa on March 31, Trautmann became just the fourth non-Division I player in NCAA history to hit 70-plus career home runs.  
• Trautmann is one of three active players chasing the NCAA home run record, including Courtney Albritton of Valdosta State (Division II) and Lauren Chamberlain of Oklahoma (Division I).

The 40-win season
• At 41-7 on the season, Augustana has gone over the 40-win mark in a season 19 times in program history. 
• Augustana has won 40-plus games in two straight seasons after finishing 46-15 in 2014. 
• Augustana has won 40-plus games in a season five times under the direction of ninth-year head coach Gretta Melsted.  
Augustana in NSIC Statistics
• Augustana ranks high in multiple team and individual categories in the NSIC. 
• Augustana leads all NSIC teams in batting average (.350), slugging percentage (.575) and on-base percentage (.426). 
• The Vikings also lead the NSIC in runs scored (341), hits (456), RBI (321), doubles (83) and home runs (68).
• Augustana leads the NSIC in team ERA (2.05) and opposing team batting average (.228). 
• Augustana leads the NSIC in batters struck out (367) and saves (5). 
Sarah Kennedy leads the NSIC in batting average (.524), hits (86) and doubles (22).
• Kennedy ranks second in the conference with 60 RBI, a .921 slugging percentage, a .553 on-base percentage.
Jenelle Trautmann leads the NSIC with 19 home runs and 64 RBI.
• Trautmann also leads the NSIC with a .992 slugging percentage and a .603 on-base percentage. 
• Trautmann ranks second in the NSIC with a 1.92 ERA and first with an opposing batting average of .204. 
• Trautmann has struck out 231 batters, which is tied for the league lead with Minnesota State's Coley Ries.

Caitlin Nichol ranks fourth in the NSIC in batting average (.458), third in slugging percentage (.852), third in on-base percentage (.538) and second in home runs (17). 
• Nichol leads the NSIC in runs scored with 69 on the season. 

NSIC Player of the Week
Jenelle Trautmann was named the NSIC's pitcher of the week for the third time this season on April 21. 
• Trautmann posted a 2-1 record, a 1.11 ERA and struck out 27 batters in 19 innings last week. 
• She has been named the NSIC's pitcher of the week six times in her career. 
• She has been named the NSIC's Player of the Week three times in her career, all this season.
• Sophomore shortstop Sarah Kennedy was named the NSIC's Player of the Week on March 31. 

Scouting the competition
Winona State

• Winona State enters the week with a record of 38-10 on the season, including 20-3 in NSIC play. 
• The Warriors sit right behind Augustana in the NSIC Standings. 
• Winona State has won five of its last seven games. 
• Winona State is batting .321 as a team with 81 doubles, 13 triples and 33 home runs. 
• Ashley Walker leads the team batting .395 with 21 doubles, five triples, three home runs and 37 RBI. 
• Walker is also 18-3 in the circle for the Warriors with a 2.22 ERA and 88 strikeouts in 141.2 innings.
• Reed Karsten is batting .383 with 18 doubles, five triples and three home runs. 
• Hanna Lythberg owns an 18-6 record in the circle and has struck out 131 batters in 143.1 innings. 
• Greg Jones is in his 14th season as the head coach at Winona State. 

Minnesota State
• Minnesota State enters the week with a record of 32-18 on the season, including 17-7 in the NSIC. 
• The Mavericks will play at SMSU on Wednesday before hosting the Vikings on Saturday. 
• Minnesota State is batting .318 as a team with 66 doubles, 23 triples and 22 home runs. 
• Tatum Klein leads the team batting .425 with a team-high 77 hits. 
• Ashley Thell has driven in a team-high 32 runs to go with a team-high 14 doubles, two triples and four home runs. 
• Coley Ries leads Minnesota State in the circle posting a 17-13 record and a 2.74 ERA. 
• Ries shares the lead with Augustana's Trautmann with 231 strikeouts on the season. 
• Lori Meyer is in her 31st season as the head coach at Minnesota State in 2015. 

Concordia-St. Paul
• Concordia-St. Paul brings a record of 16-31, including 10-14 in NSIC play into this week. 
• The Golden Bears will play Sioux Falls on Wednesday on the road before hosting Wayne State on Saturday and the Vikings on Sunday. 
• Concordia-St. Paul enters the week on a five-game losing streak. 
• The Golden Bears are batting .296 as a team with 48 doubles, five triples and 22 home runs. 
• Nicole Thompson leads the team with a .404 batting average on the season. 
• Jamie Fleischhacker leads the team with six home runs and 36 RBI to go along with seven doubles. 
• Stephanie Kappes has made 34 appearances in the circle for the Golden Bears. 
• Kappes owns a 4.97 ERA and a 10-18 record and has struck out 89 batters in 153.2 innings pitched.

One streak ends, another starts
• Sophomore shortstop Sarah Kennedy had a career-long 24-game hitting streak come to an end in last Wednesday's loss at Southwest Minnesota State.
• Kennedy had a 23-game hitting streak hitting streak earlier in the season.
• Kennedy ended the 2014 season on a five-game hitting streak and had a hit in the first 18 games of the season in 2015. 
• Kennedy has a hit in 46 of 48 games this season. 
• Kennedy has reached base safely in all 48 games this season. 
• Kennedy enters the week leading the NSIC with a .524 batting average.
• Kennedy also leads the NSIC and ranks second in Division II with 22 doubles. 
• Kennedy also leads the NSIC with 86 hits on the season.
• She ranks second in the NSIC with 60 runs batted in and 54 runs scored. 
• Kennedy has two or more hits in 30 games this season and has driven in two or more runs in 19 games. 

The pitching staff
Jenelle Trautmann leads the Vikings pitching staff with a record of 24-2 on the season. 
• Trautmann leads all pitchers in the NSIC and ranks sixth in the country with 24 wins. 
• Trautmann has compiled a 1.92 ERA in 25 starts and 33 appearances. 
• Trautmann has struck out a team-high 231 batters in 160.1 innings of work. 
• Trautmann went 2-1 last week striking out 27 batters in 19 innings pitched to earn NSIC Pitcher of the Week honors for the third time this season.
• Trautmann has struck out a season-high 14 batters in two games this season and shares the NSIC lead with 231 strikeouts. 
Carley Pickett owns an 13-4 record on the season in 30 appearances (19 starts).
• She leads the NSIC  with four saves on the year.
• Pickett led all of NCAA Division II in saves in 2014 with nine.
• Pickett has tossed three complete games and is holding batters to a .257 batting average. 
• She has struck out 104 batters in 104 innings pitched. 
Karlee Koopman owns a 4-1 record and a 1.80 ERA on the season in the circle for the Vikings. 
• Koopman has four starts in 25 appearances and has struck out 32 batters in 42.2 innings of work. 
• Augustana's pitching staff owns a combined ERA of 2.05 and has struck out 367 batters in 307 innings.

Setting the table with power
• Senior third baseman Caitlin Nichol is batting .458 out of the leadoff spot for the Vikings this season. 
• She has 71 hits in 155 at-bats, including 10 doubles and a career-high 17 home runs. 
• She has been hit by a pitch a team-high 11 times and ranks second with 18 walks. 
• She owns a .538 on-base percentage, which ranks third in the NSIC behind Sarah Kennedy and Jenelle Trautmann.
• Nichol has scored a team-high 69 runs on the season, which leads all players in the NSIC. 
• Nichol has been on a tear since March 29, batting .477 with eight doubles, 13 home runs, 36 runs scored and 23 RBI in the last 20 games. 
• During that stretch she owns a 1.200 slugging percentage and a .564 on-base percentage.
• Nichol hit three home runs in Monday's doubleheader against St. Cloud State bringing her career total to 31. 
• Nichol moved into seventh on the all-time home run list at Augustana. 

Loved by Augie, feared by all
• Senior Jenelle Trautmann is batting .472 on the season with 60 hits in 127 at-bats. 
• Trautmann has nine doubles and a league-high 19 home runs on the season.
• She tied her own single season record with her 19th home run of the season in game against Bemidji State on April 12.  • Trautmann also leads the NSIC with a career-high 64 RBI on the season. 
• Trautmann has been walked a league-high 38 times.
• Trautmann was walked six times in a doubleheader against Minnesota Duluth last Saturday. 
• Trautmann was intentionally walked four times in a game against Northern State on April 3, tying her own single-game record for intentional walks. 
• She was intentionally walked four times against Concordia-St. Paul on April 18 of last season, after hitting three home runs against the Golden Bears in the first game of the doubleheader. 
• Trautmann is Augustana's all-time leader in RBI with 229 in her career.

Rounding out the order
Carly Peterson is batting .333 for the Vikings with five doubles, one triple and three home runs. 
• Peterson leads the team with seven sacrifice hits and 14 stolen bases. 
Jordan Schaffer is batting .293 on the season and is putting up some power numbers.
• Schaffer has 10 doubles and seven home runs on the season and ranks third on the team with 44 RBI. 
Kylie Rome is batting .311 with three doubles and two home runs to go with 14 RBI.
