BURNSVILLE, Minn. – Augustana's Justin Brown has been awarded the Butch Raymond Scholarship the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference announced Friday. The $5,000 scholarship is sponsored by Sanford Health and is given to one student-athlete from each of the 16 NSIC institutions.
 
The scholarship is in recognition of Butch Raymond, the NSIC's Commissioner from 2004-2014. For over a decade, Raymond led the NSIC from and eight-team league to a 16-team super conference. During his tenure, the league won 13 team national championships while achieving a high level of academic success.
 
"Sanford Health has a long history of investing in education, and our involvement in this scholarship for the second year seemed to be the perfect way to invest in our outstanding student-athletes who represent the schools of the NSIC," said Kelby Krabbenhoft, president and CEO of Sanford Health. "It seems right and appropriate that Butch Raymond's name be attached to a scholarship for each school, recognizing his efforts in making the NSIC one of the best Division II conferences in the country. Congratulations, Butch, and thank you for your exceptional contributions and service to education, athletics and the NSIC."

To be eligible for the scholarship the recipient must be a senior academically in 2015-16, have a GPA of 3.20 or higher, be participating in intercollegiate athletics and plan to work in a health related field or attend graduate school in a health related field. The student-athletes will be publicly recognized at a home athletic event during the 2015-16 academic year.
 
Brown will be a senior on the Augustana football team in 2015. He is a three-year letterwinner and starter at free safety for the Vikings. He has played in 31 games over the last three seasons, recording 77 tackles and three interceptions to go along with two fumble recoveries. Brown, an All-NSIC South Division Honorable Mention honoree in 2013, is a biology major at Augustana and plans to attend medical school after graduation.
 
The Butch Raymond Scholarship is in its second year. Kayla Mescher was last year's Butch Raymond Scholarship recipient at Augustana.
 
Located in Sioux Falls, S.D., Augustana College is a member of NCAA Diviison II and competes in the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference.
