SIOUX FALLS, S.D. – Augustana University football will begin a two-game homestand this Saturday by hosting Minot State University in the final cross-divisional game of the 2015 season. The Vikings (2-1) will look to go 3-1 against the North Division for the second straight season when the Beavers (0-3) enter Kirkeby-Over Stadium on Saturday. Kickoff is set for 1 p.m.
Fans are encouraged to wear gold to Saturday's game as Augustana has joined with Sanford Children's and the Brave Kids Bold Cures Childhood Cancer Awareness Campaign. The campaign is designed to raise funds and awareness for the pediatric oncology services at Sanford Children's Hospital.
The Viking football coaching staff has also joined the American Football Coaches Association and the Coach to Cure MD Campaign. On Saturday, Sept. 26, thousands of college football coaches across the country at all levels, will be wearing shoulder patches on the sideline to help raise awareness for this program. You can support the campaign by donating at CoachToCureMD.org or by texting the word "CURE" to 90999.
Augustana and Minot State will meet for just the second time ever on Saturday. The two teams first met on Sept. 14, 2013, in what turned out to be a wild game in Minot, N.D. The Beavers defeated the Vikings 23-17 in triple overtime catching a tipped pass in the corner of the end zone in the third overtime session.
Both teams missed field goals in overtime before Minot's Wayne Peters caught a tipped pass in the corner of the end zone for the game-clinching catch.
Senior running back
CJ Ham had a career-day for the Vikings in last week's loss at MSU Moorhead. Ham rushed for 138 yards and a career-high three touchdowns and 25 carries. Ham scored twice in a 19-point third quarter for the Vikings to help his team take a 29-28 lead into the fourth quarter. Ham enters Saturday's game against Minot State 147 rushing yards shy of 2,000 for his career.
The Vikings rushed for a season-high 231 yards last weekend and for the first time under third-year head coach
Jerry Olszewski, lost when out-gaining their opponent in rushing yards. Augustana is 9-1 when out-gaining an opponent in rushing yards since 2013.
Augustana will play at home for two straight weeks, hosting Southwest Minnesota State next Saturday at 1 p.m.
