SIOUX FALLS, S.D. – Augustana University women's golf shot a 16-over-par in the final round of the Bearcat Fall Classic to finish in first place out of 14 teams at 31-over-par 607 (303-304). Augustana finished 21 strokes ahead of second-place Central Missouri (50-over-par 626).
Augustana had six players finish in the top-11, including
McKayla Poppens who was competing as an individual for the Vkings. Augustana won three straight tournaments to finish up the fall portion of the 2016-17 season.
The Vikings were led by
Hannah Hankinson who fired back-to-back rounds of 2-over-par 74 to finish in second place at 4-over-par 148. Hankinson was just one stroke off of the lead behind individual winner Shi Qing Ong of Missouri Western ho won the tournament at 3-over-par 147 (76-71).
Emily Israelson moved up three spots to finish third overall. Israelson fired a 4-over-par 76 in the first round on Monday before carding a 2-over-par 74 this afternoon to finish at 6-over 150.
Kali Trautman placed eighth at 9-over-par 153. Trautman shot 3-over-par 75 in the first round on Monday before firing a 6-over-par 78 this afternoon.
Sierra Langlie fired 6-over-par 78 in back-to-back rounds to place 10th at 12-overpar 156.
Jordan Bormann and Poppens tied for 11th overall both firing 13-over-par 157. Bormann fired a 7-over-par 79 yesterday and responded with a 6-over-par 78 this afternoon. Poppens shot 8-over-par 80 on Monday and took three strokes off of her first round score with a 5-over-par 77 this afternoon.
Sydney Weber, who was also competing as an individual at the Bearcat Fall Classic for the Vikings, tied for 25th overall shooting 19-over-par 163. Weber fired a 10-over-par 82 on Monday and a 9-over-par 81 on Tuesday.
This was the last competiton of the fall season for the Augustana women's golf team. The Vikings will return to the course March 16-17, 2017 hosting the Augustana Spring Fling in Palm Desert, California.
