Hauge Earns All-American Honors; Vikings Finish 12th

ST. LEO, Fla. – Nathan Hauge ends his Augustana Vikings career as an All-American. The sixth-year senior out of Sioux Falls, S.D. was the top finisher for the Vikings with a 38th place finish. Augustana as a team finished 12th.

Hauge persevered through the early morning Florida humidity to finish the 10k course at Abby Golf Course on the campus of St. Leo University with a time of 31:15.5. It was Hauge's second career All-American honor after finishing 32nd in 2014. Hauge sat out last season after being granted a medical hardship and receiving a sixth year of eligibility.

Hauge on coming back for a sixth year, "after last year, I knew that I wanted to come back and work hard, have some fun, and being an All-American is just extra."

Hauge became the 25th Augustana men's cross country student-athlete to earn All-American honors and the 16th under coach Tracy Hellman. Hauge becomes the eighth Viking to earn multiple All-American honors during his Augustana career.

"It was nice to end my career as an All-American, but I would trade it in for the team to have made it on the podium, Hauge said about Saturday's championship performance from him and his team. "We have all worked so hard this season and I know without them I wouldn't have had the success I had this year."

"It was very exciting to see Nathan Hauge close out his career with All-American award," Hellman said of Hauge's final race for Augustana.

Redshirt Freshman Jesus Urtusuastegui, racing in his first NCAA Championships finished 46th. Urtusuastegui ran the 10k course in 31:24.8 and was the second finisher for the Vikings.

Senior Glen Ellingson concluded his illustrious Augustana career on Saturday with a 52nd place finish. Ellingson ends his Viking career with two NSIC Championships and earning two All-American honors.

Rounding out the team scoring for the Vikings was senior John Klecker (124th) and sophomore Nathan Schroeder (131st). It was Klecker's third NCAA Championship appearance and Schroeder's second.

Other Viking runners were redshirt freshman Skylar DeJong (184th) and senior Keegn Carda (223rd). Carda finishes his Viking career as a one-time All-American.

"Today was a bittersweet result from the national championships. We had high goals and a great mindset, but unfortunately our men's team was shorthanded and that affected our overall result," Hellman said of his team's performance. "On the positive side, we still placed 12th overall and beat many highly ranked programs. The national championships are always very competitive and very tough, and I was proud on how our guys battled.  We are going to miss our seniors, as they have done so much for our program. But we are equally excited about our future and the opportunity to do some great things in the years to come."

Adams State took home the NCAA team championship and Vincent Kiprop of Missouri Southern was the individual champion.
