Five Vikings named to Don Hansen All-America team

PITTSBURG, Kan. – Five Augustana University football student-athletes have been named to the 2016 Don Hansen Division II All-America Team. Senior Jason Greenway was named to the third team as a return specialist while Trey Heid, Charlie Hayes, Brian Long and Jamal Samaha earned Honorable Mention honors.
 
The Don Hansen Division II All-America Team carries out the legacy of long-time small college football advocate Don Hansen, who passed away at age 75 on Aug. 29, 2010. Hansen, from Brookfield, Ill., started and published Don Hansen's National Weekly Football Gazette for three decades, selecting NCAA Division II All-America teams for the first time in 1988.
 
The Don Hansen football committee selected All-Super Region teams following the season, with first and second team members advancing to the national ballot.
 
Jason Greenway (WR, 5-9, 203, Sr., Mitchell, S.D./Mitchell HS) led the NSIC and ranked second in the country after averaging 35.2 yards per kickoff return in 2015. He also led the NSIC and tied for first in the country with one other player with three kickoff returns for touchdowns. Greenway had three kick returns for touchdowns of 90-plus yards this season. He returned a kickoff for a school record 100 yards and a touchdown in the season opener at Bemidji State on Sept. 5 before returning a kickoff 96 yards for a touchdown against Upper Iowa on Oct. 31 and another 99 yards for a score at Humboldt State on Nov. 21. He finished the season with 915 yards on 26 kick returns. Greenway earned All-NSIC South Division Second Team honors in 2015.
 
Trey Heid (QB, 6-2, 197, Jr., Lakeville, Minn./North HS) finished second in the NSIC in total offense this season averaging 328.4 yards per game. He ranked second in the NSIC in passing yards, tossing an Augustana single-season record 3,493 yards to go along with a career-high 29 passing touchdowns. Heid led the NSIC and finished the season ranked second in the nation with a 171.2 passer efficiency rating and tossed for 300-plus yards in four of 12 games in 2015. On the ground, Heid rushed for 448 yards and five touchdowns. Heid was named the NSIC's Offensive Player of the Year following the regular season.
 
Charlie Hayes (WR, 5-9, 183, Jr., Lakeville, Minn./North HS) finished the regular season ranking second in the NSIC in receptions per game (6.27) and third in receiving yards per game (97.5) He led Augustana and the NSIC with 12 touchdown receptions and finished the season ranking second in receiving yards with 1,127. Hayes caught two or more touchdown passes in three games in 2015 and hauled in a career-high 11 passes for a career-best 266 yards and four touchdowns against St. Cloud State on Sept. 12. He finished that game against SCSU just two yards shy of a single game record for receiving yards. Hayes ended the season with 73 receptions while averaging 93.9 yards per game and 15.4 yards per catch. He was named to the All-NSIC South Division First Team.
 
Brian Long (OL, 6-3, 270, Sr., Pierre, S.D./T.F. Riggs HS) started all 12 games at center for the Vikings in 2015 and centered a line that led Augustana to single season records for total offense (5,527 yards), passing yards (3,603), points scored (494) and touchdowns (64). Augustana averaged 300.2 passing yards, 160.3 rushing yards and 41.2 points per game in 2015 and had three 1,000-yard performers, including a 1,000-yard rusher and two 1,000-yard receivers. Long started every game of his career, finishing with 45 consecutive career starts on the offensive line. Long was an All-NSIC South Division First Team selection in 2015.
 
Jamal Samaha (DL, 6-4, 285, Sr., Zimmerman, Minn./Zimmerman HS) started all 12 games for the Vikings at defensive tackle in 2015 and recorded a career-high 34 tackles on the season. He finished the regular season ranked fifth in the NSIC with 7.0 quarterback sacks and finished the season with 8.0 tying the single season record at Augustana. He tied a single game record with three sacks against Southwest Minnesota State on Oct. 3 and had at least one sack in six games. Samaha recorded a career-high eight tackles at Minnesota State on Oct. 10 and has at least one tackle in 10 of 11 games on the year. Samaha earned All-NSIC South Division First Team honors in 2015.
 
Augustana finished the 2015 season with a record of 9-3, marking just its second season with nine or more wins in program history. The Vikings made their fourth NCAA Playoff appearance in program history and shared the South Division Championship with a record of 6-1 in divisional play.
