SIOUX FALLS, S.D.- Augustana women's tennis increased their match winning streak to eight with a 9-0 sweep of Bemidji State on Sunday morning at Greatlife Woodlake Athletic Club. The wins gives the Vikings a 8-0 record on the season, 6-0 in the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference. The loss dropped the Beaver to a 4-4 record, 3-4 in the NSIC.
Jessa Richards and
Kornelia Staniszewska defeated the team of Morgan Opp and Zoe Lindgren 8-1 to improve to 7-1 this year in doubles.
Sydney Postal and
Berkley Darr in No. 2 doubles defeated Deanie Hatch and Shaylin Prout 8-3.
Meredith Lawrence and
Kaitlyn Motley won 8-0 to complete the doubles sweep over Hope Johnson and Sabrina Okeson. Lawrence and Motley have won five out of the past six matched 8-0.
Richards then went on to victory over Prout in No. 1 singles 6-0, 6-0. This was Richards' third straight 9-0 victory. Postal won her third straight No. 2 singles match over Hatch 6-3, 6-1. Darr goes to 7-1 on the year with a 6-1, 6-1 win over Opp.
Christine Olivo won her match at No. 4 singles 6-3, 6-1 over Lindgren. Lawrence won her 6-0, 6-0 for the fifth time this season over Breann Walsh. Motley completed the Augustana sweep with a 6-0, 6-0 victory over
Justine Scheller.
"The girls played well today after another short turnaround," head coach
Marc Kurtz said. Now we need to rest up and get prepared for next weekend. We need to keep working on the small things and get ready for a couple of good teams that we will face."
Augustana will travel to St. Joseph, Mo. next weekend as they battle against Southwest Baptist and Northwest Missouri State.
