TOPEKA, Kan. - The Augustana University men's golf team improved two spots on the final of the the Washburn Invitational. After posting a two round total of 616 on Monday, The Vikings shot a final round 304 on Tuesday to finish the invitational in fourth-place. The Washburn Invite was held at the par-71, 6,647-yard Topeka Country Club.
Augustana entered the final round of competition in sixth-place but a 4-shot improvement from sophomore
Parker Klitzke helped set the tone for the Vikings. Klitzke had one of his best rounds of the season on Tuesday, coming just one stroke short of tying his season best score of 70. Klitzke ended the invitational in a tie for 12th.
Following closely behind Klitzke was senior
Clay Kopplin who ended the invite in 20th-place after shooting a third-round score of 77. Kopplin was +15-over par with a three round totals of 228.
Sophomore
Ted Urch improved in his final round of the Washburn Invitational. After shooting an 80 in the second round on Monday, Urch improve his score by four strokes for a 5-over par 76 and a three-round total of 15-over par 231. Urch was tied for 27th.
On Tuesday sophomore
Dakota Waverek shot an 11-over par 82 for a three round total of 240. Waverek finished in 50th.
Senior
Matt Drake improved by two strokes on Monday after shooting an 80 in the final round. Drake was 33-over par 246 and tied for 64th.
Sophomore
Les Williams improved by nine strokes from Monday Tuesday. After posting a 92 in the second-round Monday, Williams had his best round of the invitational on Tuesday, shooting an 83. Williams ended the invite a score of 269 and a tie for 88th.
The Vikings will be back on the course March 25-26 as they compete in the NSIC Preview located in Smithville, Mo.
