WICHITA, Kan. - Augustana University (3-2) split the first two games of their four game series with Newman University (11-4) in Wichita, Kan. Saturday afternoon. The Vikings got a great pitching performance in game one from
Ryan Hamilton but lost on a walk off home run in game two.
GAME ONEThe Vikings got on the scoreboard first in the second inning as
TJ Davis opened the inning with a double and
Flynn Donelan reach on a hit by pitch. With two outs and the bases loaded, senior
Justin Warne drove a pitch to center field for a single, later advancing to second, and driving in Davis and Donelan.
Newman's first base runner of the game came in the bottom of the third inning by way of a walk but after
Ryan Hamilton got a line out to left field, Davis was able to throw out the runner trying to steal second to end the ending.
Augustana got a much needed insurance run in the top of the seventh inning as
Lucas Wilber was able to drive in
Jacob James who reach base after being hit by a pitch. James made it to third after a failed Newman pick off.
The Jets pulled to within one run in the bottom of the seventh inning after Hamilton left the game with the bases loaded.
Zach Reeg came in relief of Hamilton but walked in two Jets base runners to make it 3-2 Vikings.
Dalton Allen would relieve Reeg and get the final out of the game and stranding three Jets.

GAME TWOJust like game one, Augustana was able to score first and get the early lead. The first run of the game didn't come until the fifth inning when
Patrick Fiala got the sacrifice fly to drive in
Ryan Menssen who opened the inning with a single to center field.
After Newman tied the game at one in the bottom of the sixth inning on a RBI double from Jordan Doan, it took just one swing for the Vikings get the lead back. In the top of the seventh inning
Lucas Wilber had a 3-2 count and sent the ball over the left field fence for his first home run of the season.
Augustana added a run in the eighth when
Alex Fink reached base on a fielder's choice. Fink advanced to second on a stolen base before scoring on a Newman error. Newman would add two runs of their own in the bottom of the eighth to tie the game at three when Mitchell Beaudreau singled up the middle scoring Brian Canfield and Daniel Jahnke singled scoring Doan. But the Vikings got out of the jam forcing Newman to leave the bases loaded.
The Vikings opened the ninth with a lead off double from Wilber but were not able to advance Wilber. Newman would end the game in the bottom half of the inning on a Garett Thomas 2-run walk off home run.

VIKING OF NOTEMichael Letkewicz pitched 6 solid innings for Augustana giving up six hits but just one run. He struck out four and walked three. He battled through a couple of jams and stranded the bases loaded in the fifth inning.
