Baseball sweeps Northern State for 11th straight victory

ABERDEEN, S.D. - Augustana (19-7, 10-0 NSIC) ran its season long winning streak to 11-games Sunday afternoon after completing a four game series sweep over Northern State (11-13, 4-8 NSIC). The Vikings defeated the Wolves 13-0 in game one and 11-6 in game two.

GAME ONE

In what looked to be a pitchers duel early in the game, the Vikings offense found it's rhythm scoring 13 runs in just three innings to defeat Northern State 13-0 in the first game of Sunday's doubleheader.

Ryne Lees was on top of his game on Sunday, pitching seven scoreless innings while striking out six and walking just one. The Vikings struggled to get the offense rolling in the first three innings but found it in innings four and five.

The scoring started in the fourth inning for the Vikings after an Alex Beals walk led to a 2-run blast to left center from Tyler Field. Augustana made it back-to-back home runs when Lucas Barry hit a bomb to center field to make it 3-0 Vikings.

Augustana's eight run fifth inning was started when Justin Warne reached base on an error by the third baseman. O'Donnell then singled and later scored on a two RBI single from Alex Fink. After Patrick Fiala singled Beals executed a sac bunt to score Fink. Field then singled and picked up his third RBI of the game.

TJ Davis lined out to left field but got the ball deep enough to score Field. Lucas Wilber then reached on an error before Warne picked up an RBI on a single and advanced all the way to third after an error by the right fielder. Wilber and Beals would both later score. O'Donnell brought home the final run of the inning with a single scored Warne to make it 11-0 Vikings.

The Vikings added two more runs in the top of the seventh when Davis scored on a wild pitch and Reeg scored on a passed ball. The final two runs helped give the Vikings a 13-0 win in game one.
