Women's Tennis looks to capture their seventh straight NSIC regular season title on Saturday

SIOUX FALLS S.D. - Augustana women's tennis (19-1, 10-0 NSIC) will finish off the regular season on Saturday, April 16 against Concordia-Moorhead at 2:30 p.m. and Sioux Falls at 6:30 p.m. Both matches will take place at Huether Family Match Pointe.  

Scouting the Competition
Concordia-Moorhead comes in with a 0-14 record on the year. The Cobbers lost to Carleton College two weekends ago. Only one girl on the Concordia-Moorhead roster has won a match,  Kendra Stoick. This is the first meeting between the Vikings and the Cobbers.

Sioux Falls comes in with an 11-6 record on the season, 7-3 in the NSIC. The Cougars went 1-1 last weekend defeating Minnesota Duluth 8-1, before losing to St. Cloud State 8-1. USF is led by Stacey Beard who comes in with an 11-6 record in singles this season including going 9-5 in No. 4 singles. Kara Bunkers also leads the Cougars with an 11-2 record on the year in singles competition. Another person to watch for the Cougars is Kylie Simons who comes in with an 11-6 record in singles action this year. The top doubles team for Sioux Falls is Emily Erickson and Alison Kauss who come in with a 9-7 record in No.1 doubles. The Vikings won last year's match against USF 9-0. This match will be part of the First Dakota National Bank Mayor's Cup Challenge between the two schools.

Augustana looks to capture NSIC Championship
Augustana will be looking for their seventh straight Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference regular season championship on Saturday against USF. The Vikings are currently on a 75 match conference win streak. If the team is victorious on Saturday against the Cougars, Augustana would claim their seventh straight undefeated conference season.

Vikings get a couple of  NSIC wins in Minnesota
Augustana traveled to Sartell, Minn. last weekend as they continued NSIC action against St. Cloud State and Minnesota Duluth.

The No. 1 doubles team of Kornelia Staniszewska and Jessa Richards improved to 13-1 on the season with an 8-4 win over Abigail Kantor and Marilla Roque Diversi.

Berkley Darr and Sydney Postal won their match over Jill Kedrowski and Alexie Portz 8-5 in No. 2 doubles. Meredith Lawrence and Kaitlyn Motley remained perfect in doubles play with an 8-2 victory over Quintino dos Santos and Miranda Wynkoop in No. 3 doubles.

Staniszewska stayed perfect in singles action with a 6-1, 6-0 win over El O'Brien in No. 1 singles. Richards won her match in straight sets 6-0, 6-1 over Kantor in No. 2 singles.

Postal extended her singles match winning streak to five with a 6-0, 6-1 victory over Roque Diversi in No. 3 singles. Lawrence would go on and win 6-1, 6-1 over Kedrowski in No. 6 singles to move her singles record to perfect 12-0.

In doubles action, the No.1 team of Kornelia Staniszewska and Jessa Richards won their match over Drew DeCorsey and Kelsey Zetah 8-0.
Sydney Postal and Berkley Darr defeated Shelby Benkofske and Jillian Klasen 8-4 in No. 2 doubles. Kaitlyn Motley and Meredith Lawrence completed the doubles sweep with an 8-1 victory over Katie Baasch and Karly Weber 8-1 in No. 3 doubles.

In single matches, Staniszewska won her match in straight sets 6-1, 6-0 over Benkofske in No. 1 singles. Richards shutout DeCorsey 6-0, 6-0 in No. 2 singles. Postal won her match in No. 3 singles over Kaitlin Wohnoutka 6-0, 6-3.

Darr bounced back to win 6-0, 6-0 over Klasen in No. 4 singles. Christine Olivo defeated Baasch 6-2, 6-1 in No. 5 singles. Lawrence completed the 9-0 sweep with a 6-0, 6-0 victory over Rachel Menke.

Rankings
Augustana is No. 3 in the first release of the NCAA Central Region Rankings. The Vikings are behind Northeastern State and Southwest Baptist. Augustana has a 13-1 record in the region. The Vikings are No. 48 in the latest NCAA Division II ITA Poll. Staniszewska and Richards are ranked No. 7 in the doubles bracket. Staniszewska comes in at No. 10 in the national singles rankings. The doubles pair are also ranked No. 1 in the central region. Staniszewska is ranked No. 7 in the singles division central region while Richards is at No. 12.

Leading the Charge
In his eighth season as head coach of the Augustana women's tennis program, Marc Kurtz has established his team as the elite squad in the conference and has picked up a host of awards for himself. Last year Kurtz earned his fifth NSIC coach of the year title in six years. He guided the Vikings to a 21-4 mark on the season including an 11-0 mark in the NSIC and a fifth straight conference championship.

Augustana travel to Minnetonka, Minn. next weekend for the NSIC Championship
