AURORA, Colo. – Augustana University women's golf shot a 21-over-par 309 in the second round of the 2016 NCAA Women's Golf National Championship and is in a three-way tie for eighth place at 30-over-par 606 (297-309) after 36 holes. Junior
Marisa Toivonen had another impressive day for the Vikings and currently sits tied for second with three other players at one-under-par 143 after two rounds.
The NCAA Division II Women's Golf National Championship is being held in conjunction with the 2016 NCAA Division II National Championships Festival.
Toivonen fired a one-over-par 73 this afternoon, and was inches shy of finishing at even-par when her par putt came up just inches short on the final hole of the day on Thursday.
Rollins College maintained its lead in the team standings after shooting an even-par 288 this afternoon. Rollins is in first place at two-over-par 678 (290-288) and holds and eight stroke lead over the University of Indianapolis. Indianapolis shot a tournament-low round of two-under-par 286 this afternoon to jump up four spots at 10-over-par 586 (300-286).
Hally Leadbetter of Rollins College is the individual leader after day two. Leadbetter was at even par heading into today's round in which she shot a tournament-low round of three-under-par 69 to take over the top spot on the leaderboard.
Toivonen was steady from the get-go playing even par through the first eight holes of the afternoon. She made the turn at one-under-par after picking up a birdie on the 331-yard, par-4 hole No. 9. After carding a pair of birdies on holes 12 and 14, Toivonen nearly made up for both on No. 15. She picked up a birdie on No. 15 after giving herself a shot at eagle with a strong approach on her second shot. Her eagle attempt came up just short but she was able to pick up the birdie to remain at even par.
Toivonen got out of a tough spot on No. 18 hitting out of the rough and had a chance to save par but her putt came up just short and she picked up a bogey to finish the day at one-over-par 73. Toivonen finds herself just two strokes off of the lead entering the third round of play at one-under-par 143 (70-73).
Emily Israelson is tied for 36th after 18 holes with an eight-over-par 152 (74-78). Israelson finished six-over-par 78 this afternoon shooting three-over on both of the front and back nine holes. She made par on the first four holes of the day before closing-out the final five holes with three bogeys to enter the back at three-over-par. Israelson started off the back nine with a birdie on the 385-yard, par-4 No. 10, but ended the day shooting three-over on the final nine holes to finish at six-over for the day.
Kali Trautman is tied for 47th after two rounds of play at 10-over-par 154. Trautman opened the tournament shooting three-over-par 75 in round one before firing a seven-over-par 79 this afternoon. Trautman had a tough start to the day but a birdie on the 147-yard, par-3 hole No. 6 helped her overcome the start and finish strong. She made par on 10 of the next 13 holes to finish at seven-over-par 79.
Jordan Bormann fired a seven-over-par 79 for the second straight day and sits in a tie for 60th with three other golfers after 18 holes. Bormann was just two-over-par after the first nine holes and picked up a birdie on hole No. 5. She finished the back nine at five-over-par to bring her two-day total to 14-over-par 158 (79-79).
Sierra Langlie is tied for 64th overall at 15-over-par 159 (78-81) after two rounds. Langlie finished at nine-over-par 81 this afternoon. She was four-over-par after the first nine holes before finishing out the back nine at five-over-par. Langlie picked up a pair of birdies on the back nine, one on the 168-yard, par-3 hole No. 12 and another on the 168-yard, par-3 hole No. 17.
