Montez Brown and Mescher earn All-America honors on day two at NCAA Championship

BRADENTON, Fla. – Augustana University's Olivia Montez Brown and Kayla Mescher both earned All-America honors on day two at the 2016 NCAA Division II Outdoor Track and Field Championship at IMG Academy.
 
Montez Brown set a new school record in the heptathlon scoring 5,254 points to finish sixth in the event earning First Team All-America honors. Mescher finished 11th overall with a time of 2:10.64 in the 800-meter run to earn Second Team All-America honors.
 
Anthony Huber also made his first career appearance at the NCAA Championship meet on Friday. Huber placed 20th overall in the discus throw with a toss of 46.42 meters (152 feet, seven inches). Huber qualified for the NCAA Championship with a throw of 52.23 meters (171 feet, four inches) at the Howard Wood Relays on May 7. He entered the NCAA Championship with the 19th-best throw in the country.
 
Bree Woelber also competed in the heptathlon for Augustana on Friday. She earned 374 points with a jump of 4.28 meters (14 feet, 0.5 inches) and 686 points with a throw of 40.97 meters (134 feet, five inches) in the javelin. Woelber did not finish the heptathlon after scratching in the 800-meter run with medical clearance.
 
Woelber still has two events remaining at the NCAA Championship. She is set to compete in the javelin and high jump on Saturday.
 
Montez Brown opened the day by setting another school record in the first event of the three remaining in the heptathlon. She set a new school record in the long jump with a leap of 6.08 meters (19 feet, 11.5 inches) breaking her own previous record by over seven inches.
 
Next up for Montez Brown was the javelin throw and she once again set a new personal-best. She finished the javelin with a toss of 32.53 meters (106 feet, eight inches). Montez Brown finished the day with her sixth personal-best mark in seven events with a time of 2:22.77 in the 800-meter run. Montez Brown finished the heptathlon with a school record 5,254 points which put her just 174 points out of first place.
 
Woelber and Mescher will return to action on the final day of the 2016 NCAA Division II Outdoor Track and Field Championship tomorrow. Woelber is scheduled to compete in the javelin throw at 1:25 p.m. (CT) and the high jump at 5 p.m. (CT). Mescher will run the 400-meter hurdles at 6:30 p.m. (CT).
