MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. – For the second consecutive meet the Augustana men's cross country team finished as the top team. On Saturday, the Vikings took first in the loaded Roy Griak Invitational field and had three runners place in the top-12. The Vikings also took first at the Augustana Twilight on Sept. 2.
The sixth ranked Augustana men's team finished with 88 points to run away from the field. Coming in behind the Vikings was No. 21 UC San Diego with 130 points. No. 27 Black Hills State, University of Manitoba and No. 14 Western Washington rounded out the top-five.
"I thought our men had a solid performance today," head coach
Tracy Hellman said of his team. "There were a number of nationally ranked teams that we faced and it was good to get a team victory with that field. We still have a long way to go, but this was a good start."
The top individual placer for the Vikings was senior
Glen Ellingson with a third place finish. Ellingson completed the 8K course in 26:09.
Behind Ellingson was fellow senior
Keegan Carda who took eighth place with a time of 26:30. Coming in 12th was redshirt freshman
Jesus Urtusuastegui with a time of 26:40.
Rounding out the team scoring for Augustana was sophomore
Nathan Schroeder and senior
Nathan Hauge. Schroeder came in 31st with a time of 27:13 and Hauge finished in 34th with a time of 27:20.
Next up for the Vikings will be the Chili Pepper Invitational hosted by the University of Arkansas in Fayetteville, Ark. on Oct. 1.
