SIOUX FALLS, S.D – A match-leading 18 kills from senior
Lauren Waite drove the 18th-ranked Augustana volleyball team to a 3-0 victory over MSU Moorhead Friday night in the Elmen Center. The victory was the Vikings sixth in a row, all of which came in straight sets.
Augustana (15-5, 6-4) won set one 25-11, set two 25-19 and set three 25-12.
"We came out firing right away," head coach
Jennifer Jacobs said. "We stayed in system and I'm just really proud of them."
Waite's 18 kills came on just 32 attempts for a .562 hitting percentage.
Senior middle blocker
Ashley Wilson tallied eight kills and two block assists while
Bailey Koch knocked down six kills and a solo block.
Setter
Alex Banker used 39 assists to help guide the offense while muscling up seven digs.
Libero
Tahlyr Banks accounted for a team-high 23 digs on the night.
As a team, the Vikings held Moorhead to just a .041 hitting percentage.
"We've been working hard in practice to improve our defensive effort," Waite said. "We didn't let many balls hit the ground without effort tonight."
With the loss, the Dragons drop to 7-11 overall and 2-8 in conference play.
Augustana returns to action Saturday when they host ninth-ranked Northern State at 5 p.m.
