SIOUX FALLS, S.D. – Double-digit kills from four players helped the 18th-ranked Augustana volleyball team defeat ninth-ranked Norhtern State, 3-1, Saturday night in the Elmen Center.
The Vikings won the first two sets 25-23 and 25-19, before dropping the third set 25-20. Augustana won the clinching fourth set, 25-21. With the win, the Vikings improve to (16-5) overall and (7-4) in conference play, and extend their winning streak to seven matches.
"It was a big match for us tonight," head coach
Jennifer Jacobs said. "The girls came out strong right away, Northern State pushed back like any good team would but we were able to hold them off."
Senior setter
Alex Banker helped guide the Augustana offense, assisting 60 of the 68 Vikings kills. The 60 kills from the Omaha, Neb. native is a career high.
Payton Rosendahl, a redshirt freshman from Creston, Neb. set a career high with 14 kills while hitting .370
"I thought we really came together as a team tonight and played well," Rosendahl said. "When it came to the end of sets, I thought we buckled down and played well."
Junior
Courtney Place recorded a double-double for Augustana. She knocked down a team high 17 kills and dug up 11 digs on the night.
Ashley Wilson tallied a .478 hitting percentage on 13 kills, while senior
Bailey Koch hit .333 on 10 kills. The Litchfield, Minn. native also added five digs.
As a team, Augustana hit .275 on the night.
The Vikings return to action Fri. Oct 20, when they travel to Minnesota State. First serve is set for 6 p.m.
