MANKATO, Minn – A complete team effort across the court propelled the Augustana volleyball team to a 3-1 win over Minnesota State Mankato at the Taylor Center Friday night.
The Vikings, who improve to 17-5 overall and 8-4 in NSIC play, won set won 25-21, dropped set two 22-25, before taking the next two sets 25-17 and 25-23.
Augustana dug themselves holes early in each of the first two sets. The Vikings trailed 6-0 in set one and 8-0 in set two, but all-around effort kept Augustana on track.
"Any win in the NSIC on the road is a good win," head coach
Jennifer Jacobs said. "I'm proud of the way the girls worked through some early challenges and battled together."
Senior middle blocker
Ashley Wilson paced the Vikings offensively, knocking down 13 kills while hitting .522 on the night.
Setter
Alex Banker recorded another double-double Friday night. The Omaha, Neb. native tallied 43 assists and 17 digs. Junior
Courtney Place accounted for a match-high 18 kills and added six digs.
The all-time digs leader in Augustana volleyball history continued to shine as
Tahlyr Banks' 28 digs and
Hanna Justesen's 14 digs assisted the Vikings defensively.
Redshirt freshman
Payton Rosendahl muscled down 13 kills to give Augustana three players to have double-digit kills on the evening.
With the loss, Minnesota State drops to 11-9 overall and 5-7 in conference play.
The Vikings return to action Saturday when they take on #3 Concordia-St Paul. First serve is set for 4 p.m.
