BISMARCK, N.D. – With a dominating performance from start to finish, the 17th-ranked Augustana volleyball team defeated the University of Mary, 3-0, to extend their match win-streak to five.
The Vikings, who improve to (14-5, 5-4) on the season, won set one, 25-13, set two 25-9 and set three 25-17, to earn their ninth sweep of the season.
"I'm happy with the way we started today's match. We were aggressive from the service line and that's the way Augustana volleyball can play. We were loose but still focused," head coach
Jennifer Jacobs said. "A sweep weekend is tough to come by in our conference so I'm very proud of the way we came out and played hard."
Junior
Courtney Place led the way for Augustana, knocking down 13 kills while hitting .462 on the afternoon. Senior
Lauren Waite muscled down 10 kills for the Vikings while hitting .500.
As a team, Augustana hit .420 against Mary, who drops to (5-13, 1-8) on the year, with help from senior setter
Alex Banker who tallied 35 assists for the Vikings.
Senior
Bailey Koch knocked down 8 kills to go along with her .615 hitting percentage.
Hanna Justesen had a team high 11 digs.
Augustana returns to action for homecoming weekend, when the Vikings host MSU Moorhead on Friday, Oct. 13 at 6 p.m. and 13th-ranked Northern State on Saturday at 5 p.m.
