BISMARCK, N.D. – The Augustana women's tennis team recorded its fifth straight victory with a win over U-Mary, 9-0, in Bismarck, N.D. on Sunday afternoon. The Vikings move to 5-1 (4-0 NSIC) on the season and have yet to drop a match in NSIC play.
In doubles,
Berkley Darr teamed up with
Christine Olivo at No. 1 doubles for the second time this season and came away victorious by a score of 8-4. At No. 2 doubles
Taylor Jackson and
Rebecca Falkner and
Meredith Lawrence and
Kaitlyn Motley at No. 3 doubles each won 8-1.
In singles play, Jackson played No. 1 singles for the first time this season and defeated Catherine Gibbens after Gibbens retired in the first set. Darr moved to 4-2 on the season in No. 2 singles win a straight set win over Meredith Holt, 6-0, 6-1.
Olivo took the first set at No. 3 singles before Lucia Bolibruch retired giving Olivo the win. Lawrence played No. 4 singles for the first time this season and had the same success with a 6-2, 6-1 straight set victory.
Motely defeated Eileen Leong at No. 5 singles with a 6-2, 6-2 win. Falkner moved to 3-0 on the season with a 6-3, 6-0 win a No. 6 singles.
"The girls played well this weekend," coach
Marc Kurtz said about his team. "We now need to have a good few days of practice before a big regional match this week. We need to be ready to go because this will be a big test for us."
The women's tennis team is on the road next weekend playing three matches in four days. The Vikings take on Southwest Baptist on Feb. 23 in St. Joseph, Mo. and then travel north to battle NSIC foes Bemidji State and Minnesota Crookston in Grand Forks, N.D. on Feb. 25 and 26.
