ST. JOESPH, Mo. – The Augustana women's tennis team dropped a tough match against regional foe Southwest Baptist in St. Joseph, Mo. on Thursday, 6-3. The Vikings fall to 5-2 (4-0 NSIC) on the season and had their five-match winning streak snapped.
In doubles, the Bearcats won at No. 1 and No. 2 doubles by the same score, 9-7. At No. 3 doubles
Kaitlyn Motley and
Rebecca Falkner defeated Lucia Diaz and Beatriz Federer, 8-6. It was the first time Motley and Falkner's first time being paired in doubles on the season.
In singles play, the Bearcats took four of the six matches to win the match 6-3 over the Vikings. At No. 1 singles
Kornelia Staniszewska remained unbeaten in singles play on the season with a 6-4, 6-2, straight set victory over Lara Soares. Staniszewska improved to 5-0 on the season.
The other singles victory for the Vikings came at No. 6 singles were Falkner beat Zorana Jovanovic, 6-3, 6-2. Falkner remained unbeaten in her freshman campaign moving to 4-0 on the season.
The Vikings will conclude the weekend in Grand Forks, N.D. going up against NSIC foes Bemidji State and Minnesota Crookston. Augustana will play Bemidji State at 3:30 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 25 and will take on Minnesota Crookston at 8:30 a.m. on Sunday, Feb. 26.
