HILTON HEAD ISLAND, S.C. – The Augustana women's tennis team ended their spring trip with an 8-1 rout of Edinboro to conclude the Spring TennisFest in Hilton Head Island, S.C. The Vikings improved to 8-4 (6-0 NSIC) on the season.
In doubles play, the Vikings swept the action winning by 8-1 scores at each position.
Kornelia Staniszewska and
Berkley Darr paired up at No. 1 doubles,
Taylor Jackson and
Meredith Lawrence teamed up at No. 2 doubles and
Rebecca Falkner and
Kaitlyn Motley played together at No. 3 doubles.
In singles, Augustana took five of the six matches to secure the 8-1 victory over the Fighting Scots. At No. 1 singles, Staniszewska improved to 8-0 on the season with a 6-2, 6-1 win. At No. 2 singles, Jackson won a marathon against Julia Hellstern, winning 6-7 (5-10), 7-6 (10-5), 1-0 (18-16).
At Nos. 4, 5 and 6 singles the Vikings each earned straight set victories to close out the win.
The Vikings return home next weekend to host Northwest Missouri State and Sioux Falls. The Vikings will take on the Bearcats on March 24 with the time and location to-be-determined and will play the Cougars on March 25 at 7 p.m. at the GreatLIFE Woodlake Athletic Club.
