SIOUX FALLS, S.D. – The Augustana women's tennis team remains unbeaten in NSIC play with a 8-1 win over Sioux Falls. The Vikings improved to 9-5 (7-0 NSIC) on the season and stretched their NSIC winning streak to 84 matches.
"We had a good weekend for the girls," coach
Marc Kurtz said of his team's weekend performance. "We had a close and difficult match against NWMSU and we certainly had our chances and we will use it as a learning experience and will move forward from it. We can out focused against USF and played well. We are looking to have a good week of practice for this weekend's upcoming matches."
In doubles play, the Vikings swept the Cougars. Augustana won each doubles match, 8-1.
Kornelia Staniszewska and
Berkley Darr paired at No. 1 doubles and improved to 9-2 on the year.
Taylor Jackson and
Meredith Lawrence combined for the win at No. 2 doubles and
Rebecca Falkner and
Kaitlyn Motley won at No. 3 doubles. Vikings have yet to drop a doubles match in NSIC play this season.
In singles, Staniszewska improved to 10-0 on the season with a strong straight sets victory at No. 1 singles, 6-0, 6-1. At No. 2 singles,
Taylor Jackson was dominate, winning 6-0, 6-0.
At. No. 3 singles, Darr was victorious, 6-3, 6-1 and at No. 5 singles Lawrence won 6-2, 6-0. Motely capped off the night at No. 6 singles with a straight sets victory to seal the 8-1 win for the Vikings.
Next weekend, the Vikings will travel to Winona, Minn. for a pair of NSIC matches. On Saturday, April 1 Augustana takes on Winona State at 12:30 p.m. and will conclude the weekend against Upper Iowa on Sunday, April 2 at 9 a.m.
