SIOUX FALLS, S.D. – In a match that lasted 5 ½ hours, the Vikings were edged out, 5-4, by the Bearcats of Northwest Missouri State. The Vikings drop to 8-5 (6-0 NSIC) on the season.
In doubles play, the Vikings jumped out to a 2-1 lead after taking two of the three doubles matches. The Vikings won by identical scores of 8-2 at Nos. 1 and 3 doubles with
Kornelia Staniszewska and
Berkley Darr paring at No. 1 doubles and
Kaitlyn Motley and
Rebecca Falkner partnering at No. 3 doubles. At No. 2 doubles,
Meredith Lawrence and
Taylor Jackson fell in a marathon 2-hour match, 9-8 (7-4).
In singles play, Staniszewska stayed unbeaten at No. 1 singles on the year, improving to 9-0 after defeating Lorena Rivas Jarolim, 6-3, 6-0. At No. 6 singles,
Rebecca Falkner won in straight sets ending the Bearcats run of three straight singles wins and tying the match at 4-4.
At No. 5 singles, Lawrence fell in the tiebreaker, 3-6, 6-1, 1-0 (10-8), and the Bearcats eeked out a 5-4 victory.
The Vikings return to action tomorrow, taking on crosstown rival Sioux Falls at the GreatLIFE Woodlake Athletic Club at 7 p.m.
