WINONA, Minn. – The Augustana women's tennis team had no problem dispatching Upper Iowa on Sunday morning, cruising to a 9-0 victory. The Vikings pushed their NSIC regular season winning streak to 86 matches and improved to 11-5 (9-0 NSIC) on the year.
The Vikings swept the doubles matches with the closest match coming at No. 1 doubles.
Kornelia Staniszewska and
Berkley Darr defeated Isabella Sella and Linn Sorman, 8-5 at the No. 1 doubles position.
Taylor Jackson and
Meredith Lawrence paired at No. 2 doubles for an 8-2 win and
Kaitlyn Motley and
Rebecca Falkner won by a score of 8-4 at No. 3 doubles.
In singles play, the Vikings didn't drop a match and rolled to a 9-0 victory over the Peacocks. Staniszewska moved to 12-0 at No. 1 singles on the year with a victory over Sella. At No. 2 singles, Jackson edged out Shakhnaza Zhanatova, 6-4, 7-6 (7-1), in the closest singles contest of the match.
At No. 3 singles Darr defeated Sorman, 6-2, 6-0 and at No. 4 singles Lawrence took down Kelly Jachymowski, 6-1, 6-0. Falkner improved to 10-1 in her freshman season with a 6-4, 6-3 win at No. 5 singles. Motley won convincingly at No. 6 singles by not dropping a set and winning 6-0, 6-0.
The Vikings will wrap up the regular season next weekend at home. Augustana will take on Minnesota Duluth on Saturday, April 8 at 7 p.m. and will wrap up the weekend against St. Cloud State on Sunday, April 9 at 9 a.m. Both matches will take place at the GreatLIFE Woodlake Athletic Club in Sioux Falls, S.D.
