SIOUX FALLS, S.D. – The Augustana women's tennis team continued to flex its muscles against NSIC competition with a 9-0 victory over St. Cloud State on Sunday morning. The Vikings improved to 13-5 on the season finishing with an 11-0 NSIC record and securing their eighth straight NSIC regular season unbeaten. The Vikings also improved their NSIC regular season winning streak to 88 straight matches.
On Saturday night against Minnesota Duluth, Augustana locked up its eighth straight NSIC regular season title.
The Vikings got off to a good start by sweeping doubles and taking a 3-0 lead. At No. 1 doubles,
Kornelia Staniszewska and
Berkley Darr earned an 8-4 victory and finished the regular season with a record of 13-2 and an 8-0 NSIC record to finish best on the team.
At No. 2 doubles,
Taylor Jackson and
Meredith Lawrence took down St. Cloud State's pair of Jill Kedrowski and Alexie Portz, 8-3.
Kaitlyn Motley and
Rebecca Falkner won at No. 3 doubles by a score of 8-2.
In singles play, the Vikings also swept the singles matches to secure a 9-0 victory. Darr won at No. 2 singles in straight sets to improve to 11-7 on the season and 11-0 in NSIC play. Darr was the only Vikings who played in every singles NSIC match. At No. 1 singles, Jackson defeated Abigail Kantor in straight sets, 6-0, 6-4.
At No. 6 singles,
Annika Teske picked up her third win on the season with a straight sets victory over Ann Marie White.
Christine Olivo got back on track with a 6-3, 7-5, win at No. 3 singles.
At Nos. 4 and 5 singles, Lawrence and Falkner closed out the match with victories in tiebreakers.
Next for the Vikings will be the NSIC tournament in Minnetonka, Minn. on Saturday, April 22 through Sunday April 23 at Lifetime Fitness. The Vikings will be the top seed after winning the NSIC regular season title for the eighth consecutive year.
