ST. CLOUD, Minn. - The second-seeded Vikings fell in the winner's bracket game to No. 3 St. Cloud State on Thursday by a score of 3-2. With the loss the Vikings will play a second game today against Minot State. The loser of that game is eliminated from the tournament.
Jacob Blank got the start for the Vikings and pitched well. Over six and a two-thirds innings Blank didn't allow an earned run but did give up two unearned runs. He allowed just four hits with five strikeouts and one walk.
Augustana fell behind early after St. Cloud State scored two runs in the third to take an early 2-0 lead. The Vikings though battled back to tie it just an inning later.
In the fourth
Patrick O'Donnell led off with a single and advanced to second on a
Kris Ashland ground out. After
Ford Schroeder was walked he and O'Donnell each stole a base to move into scoring position.
Ryan Menssen then singled to center to score both O'Donnell and Schroeder to tie the game two in the fourth.
With the bases loaded in the top of the eighth inning, the Huskies were able to walk in a run and take a 3-2 lead. The Vikings were unable to get anything going in the final two frames and fell to SCSU 3-2.
