INDIANAPOLIS – The NCAA Division II Softball Selection Show will be aired on Monday, May 8, at 9 a.m. (CT) via webcast at
NCAA.com announcing the field for the 64-team tournament. Augustana softball was ranked seventh in all three editions of the Central Region rankings.
The top eight teams in each of the eight regions will earn a berth to the NCAA Tournament, with the top two teams in each region hosting a Super Regional. The Central Region is made up of teams from the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference, the Mid-American Intercollegiate Athletic Association and the Great American Conference.
Automatic bids were awarded to the conference tournament winners from the NSIC, MIAA and the GAC. Minnesota State, Mankato earned the auto-bid from the NSIC. Central Oklahoma (MIAA) and Harding University (GAC) earned automatic bids winning their respective conference tournaments.
Augustana (38-14) went 2-2 in the NSIC Tournament this past weekend. The Vikings defeated Bemidji State 2-1 on Thursday before falling 2-1 in eight innings to Winona State on Friday. Augustana stayed alive with a 12-8 win over Minot State before being eliminated by Bemidji State after a 7-4 setback.
Augustana softball has made 23 NCAA postseason appearances in program history, including six straight from 2010 to 2015. The Vikings missed the cut for the NCAA Tournament for the first time since 2009 last season.
