Barrows and Tuschen Earn 3rd Team CoSIDA Academic All-America® Honors

AUSTIN, Texas - Augustana University junior Zach Tuschen and sophomore Josh Barrows have been named to the 2017 CoSIDA Academic All-America® Division II Track & Field/Cross Country third team, as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America.
 
The Division II Academic All-America® program recognizes the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances in the classroom and athletically.
 
Tuschen and Barrows are the 46th and 47th student-athletes in Augustana history to earn first, second or third team CoSIDA Academic All-America® honors. They are the second and third men's cross country/track and field student-athletes to earn Academic All-America® honors.
 
Tuschen, a native of Sioux Falls, S.D., placed in the top-10 in every 800-meter race on the season and ran a season's best time of 1:55.56 in the 800-meters at the NSIC Championships. Tuschen has earned six Academic All-NSIC accolades and was All-NSIC in the 4x400-meter relay and the DMR during the 2016 indoor season. Tuschan has earned All-Region honors in the DMR during the 2015 and 2016 indoor seasons. Tuschan was also awarded the NSIC Myles Brand All-Academic Award this year and has twice been named to the USTFCCCA All-Academic team.
 
Barrows, a native of Helena, Mont., qualified for the Indoor NCAA Championships in the 800-meters and in the 400-meter hurdles and the 800-meters at the Outdoor NCAA Championships. Barrows earned All-Region honors in both the indoor and outdoor 800-meters and the outdoor 400-meter hurdles. Barrows also earned All-NSIC honors in the indoor 800-meters and the outdoor 400-meter hurdles. Barrows has earned seven career All-NSIC honors, four All-Region honors, two Academic All-NSIC accolades and one USTFCCCA All-Academic honor.
 
Tuschen earned a 4.0 grade-point average as a Biology major and Barrows sported a 3.96 grade-point average as an English major at Augustana.
 
To be eligible for Academic All-America® consideration, a student-athlete must be a varsity starter or key reserve, maintain a cumulative GPA of 3.30 on a scale of 4.00, have reached sophomore athletic and academic standings at his/her institution and be nominated by his/her sports information director.

Located in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, Augustana University is a member of NCAA Division II and competes in the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference.
