Regis Tops Augustana 3-0 Friday Night

GOLDEN, Colo. – The 10th-ranked Augustana volleyball team dropped a 3-0 decision (19-25, 16-25, 21-15) to the Regis Rangers Friday night at the Oredigger Classic.

"Regis played amazing," Augustana head coach Jennifer Jacobs said. "Every single ball we sent their way, they picked it up."

In set one, the Vikings found themselves trailing 8-2 early, before clawing their way back and taking the lead, 14-13. The set went back-and-forth until the Rangers untimely took control. A kill by Regis' Caitlyn Burroway secured a set one victory for the Rangers.

Augustana continued to battle in the second set. The Vikings trailed early, but fought their way back and found themselves trailing just 19-15 via a kill by junior outside hitter Lauren Waite. Waite accounted for nine kills and five digs in the match.  The Rangers closed out on a 6-1 run to take set two.

Trailing 21-14 in the third set, the Vikings went on a 6-2 run to get the match to just a 23-20 deficit with a kill by senior Ashley Wilson forcing a Regis timeout. An ace by senior Alex Banker cut the Ranger lead to 23-21, but back-to-back kills by Burroway secured the match for Regis (2-0, 0-0.)

Senior Bailey Koch lead Augustana with 10 kills in the match while Banker led the Vikings with 25 assists.

Kelsey Green accounted for 14 kills and 10 digs for the Rangers. Five different Rangers had 10 or more digs in the match.

"Kudos to Regis. They played a very good match," Jacobs said. "We will definitely regroup and bounce back tomorrow"

The Vikings return to action Saturday for two matches when they face Rollins at noon (CT) and Eastern New Mexico at 6:30 p.m. (CT) in Oredigger Classic.
