ST. CLOUD, Minn. – Augustana senior libero
Tahlyr Banks posted eight more digs than the 13 she need to set the school's all-time digs record on Saturday at St. Cloud State, and to add to the celebration, it came in a 3-1 win over the Huskies.
The No. 12 ranked Vikings improve to 8-4 with the win overall, and to 1-3 in NSIC play, while the Huskies fall to 9-4 overall and an even 2-2 in conference play.
"We got back in the saddle tonight, and I'm proud of the ay the team jumped out in Sets 1 and 2," head coach
Jennifer Jacobs said. "Even though St. Cloud State took Set 3, we were determined to win it in four."
Augustana started strong, winning the first two sets by the same 25-20 scores, but the Huskies closed fast in the third set, and used a 5-0 run to turn a 14-10 lead into a 19-10 lead midway through the set to secure the Set 3 win and force a fourth set.
In that fourth set, the Vikings regained their composure, and broke through after ties at 12, 13 and 14-all to secure the 25-21 Set 4 win and a 3-1 win in the match.
Banks, who broke Abby Schmidt's (2003-06) record of 2,004 digs, finished with a team-high 21 digs on the night giving her 2,011 for her career. Three other Vikings also tallied double-figure digs, with
Kaylea Ahrens adding 16,
Hanna Justesen 12 and
Alex Banker 11 digs to go along with her 33 set assists to complete the team's only double-double on the night.
Offensively,
Courtney Place led a trio of Augustana attackers with 15 kills.
Lauren Waite tacked on 12 kills and
Ashley Wilson 10 more for the Vikings, who return to action on Saturday against No. 6 ranked Minnesota Duluth. That match tips at 2 p.m.
